VIV RENT A CAR
REMINDER FOR BEGINNERS
Experienced motorhome users know what to do before hitting the road, but it's good for them to be reminded too.
Apart from the fact that all the systems on the vehicle must be technically correct, you also need to do the following:
Check that your camper's headlights (main beam and dipped beam), position, side, stop and reverse lights, turn signals and license plate lights are working. The reasons for this are known to all drivers.
Check the tire pressure. If necessary, pump up the tires or let out excess air. In some models, there is a possibility that an incorrect tire pressure warning may appear due to the fact that one of them is over-inflated. It is better to check with a vulcanizer, because most often, compressors at gas stations do not pump more than 4.5 to 4.8 bar, while some campers have a prescribed pressure of 5.5 bar.
Check if you have enough windshield washer fluid. Check if you have enough windshield washer fluid.
If you have bicycles on the rack, make sure they are securely fastened and locked to the rack. If you are traveling to Spain or Italy, you need a proper plate to mark the load that goes out of dimensions on the back of the vehicle. For Italy and Spain the boards are different, find a board that is Italian on one side and Spanish on the other.
If the bike rack is empty, it must be securely closed.
The reversing camera lens must be clean, check that too.
The doors of the luggage compartment and boxes for gas, toilet cassette, etc. must be closed and locked.
If you have steps to stabilize the camper while it's parked, don't forget to raise them to the driving position. If you forget that, you will cause damage of at least a few hundred euros.
If your camper has a step, make sure it is properly closed.
The same goes for the awning.
In the interior of the vehicle, all doors (toilet and shower cabin), doors on boxes and cupboards, as well as drawers must be properly closed and locked.
Place the seat on the toilet bowl.
Check that the refrigerator door is closed properly. If they are opened while driving, things fly out of the refrigerator, glass packaging breaks, liquid spills.
If your camper has a pull-down bed, make sure it is in the upper safe driving position.
Remove all objects from exposed horizontal surfaces.
All windows in the residential part of the vehicle must be closed and locked, as well as all roof windows, because they are not designed for drafts while driving.
Blinds for the windshield and side windows in the driver's cabin must be secured so that they do not close while driving.
